This new course is designed to assist teachers in developing and enhancing skills in the meaningful integration of technology into instruction and the curriculum in language arts, math, science, and social studies. This course will focus on the development of student-centered learning opportunities that meet state standards and embed technology skills. Instruction will take place in a “SMART” classroom, where teachers will have the opportunity to learn how to use a SMART interactive whiteboard, an interactive response system, and a wireless slate. Teachers will have the opportunity to develop various technology-rich components for the courses they teach so that they can transform lessons and deliver curriculum in new and exciting ways. By focusing on only one content area in each class session, teachers will have the opportunity to investigate and utilize software and web resources specific to that subject area. Teachers will learn varied ways to incorporate state technology competencies into their teaching methods. By the end of this course, participants should be able to address the essential questions:

♦  How can we design curriculum in the content areas that develops student understanding of key curriculum standards?
♦  How can we integrate new technologies to enhance teaching and learning for understanding?
